Job Interviews - Prepare to Succeed
Interview preparation and technique is important, if you are to get the job you want, with the yacht or company you want.
Always allow plenty of time to get to your job interview, making sure you are suitably dressed.
Chefs — if they want you to cook at your interview, make sure you have your chef whites, knives and footwear.
Have a list of questions ready for the interviewer, and a notepad — it shows you are interested in the job.
You'll need to distinguish yourself from other applicants at an interview, and the easiest way is to have prepared some research on the yacht or company and what they offer.
Have an idea of the type and size of yacht or operation you would like to work in, and check their brochures or website to ensure they operate in the country or region you want to work in.
Always look at the interviewer when speaking to them, and don't be afraid to ask questions or ask them to repeat a question if you didn't understand it.
If you don't know the answer to a question, it's better to say "I'm sorry, I don't know the answer" rather than try to bluff your way through.
Most interviewers will have done yacht, seasonal or yacht industry work themselves, so they can offer advice, but will spot a bluffer easily.
Take notes during the interview and make sure you write down the details of the package to take away with you — you won't remember all the details if you have more than one interview in a day, and you might make the wrong choice from misremembering a package from memory.
